Data Ethics
Last updated: March 12, 2026
At Modlith, we believe technology should serve people rather than exploit their data. This page outlines how we collect, process, and attribute information in ways that respect user privacy, intellectual property, and the broader digital ecosystem.
1. Our Philosophy
Modlith is built on transparency, accountability, and respect for digital ownership. We believe in clear boundaries between data that belongs to users, data that belongs to us, and data that belongs to our integration partners. Our goal is to collect only the information necessary to operate the service securely and reliably.
2. Ethical Use of Data
Modlith follows a principle of minimal and purpose-limited data collection. Information is gathered only when necessary to support a feature, maintain system reliability, or ensure security. We avoid collecting unnecessary or excessive data.
- We do not sell, trade, or rent user data.
- We anonymize analytics data wherever possible.
- We use encryption and secure protocols for stored and transmitted data.
- We design systems to minimize long-term storage of personal information.
3. What We Avoid
Many digital platforms rely on invasive tracking practices. Modlith is intentionally designed to avoid these approaches wherever possible.
- We do not track users across unrelated websites.
- We do not build behavioral advertising profiles.
- We do not sell or broker personal data.
- We do not deploy hidden fingerprinting or invasive tracking technologies.
Our objective is to build software that respects the autonomy and dignity of its users while still providing useful insights for maintaining and improving the platform.
4. Responsible AI and Automation
Some Modlith modules may use AI-assisted capabilities such as automation, summarization, or recommendations. These features are designed to enhance productivity rather than replace human judgment.
- AI is never used to profile or target users.
- AI-driven insights are generated from anonymized or aggregated data.
- We disclose AI involvement whenever it meaningfully influences system output or decision-making.
5. Attribution and Integration Transparency
Modlith integrates with trusted third-party services such as payment processors, analytics tools, and cloud infrastructure providers. Each integration follows strict transparency and privacy standards.
- We clearly acknowledge external APIs and services when their outputs appear within the platform.
- We comply with each partner’s data usage policies and terms.
- We choose integration partners that maintain comparable security and privacy standards.
6. Transparency in Data Access
Users have the right to understand what information Modlith stores, how it is used, and how it can be removed. Upon verified request, we will provide or erase user data in accordance with applicable privacy regulations such as POPIA (South Africa), GDPR (Europe), or other regional data protection laws where required.
7. Attribution for Shared Components
In keeping with open-source ethics, Modlith acknowledges and credits the technologies and creative resources that support the platform.
- The Elixir and Phoenix communities for the open-source foundations of the application.
- Third-party UI libraries, icon sets, and code contributions used under their respective licenses.
8. Commitment to Continuous Improvement
Ethical data stewardship is an ongoing responsibility. As Modlith evolves, we continually review our systems, policies, and integrations to ensure they remain aligned with fairness, transparency, and respect for the individual.
